Personal Umbrella

You've worked hard to own a home and a nice car or two. Maybe you've saved some money for your family dream vacation and you've even put away some cash for your children's college tuition. It could all be gone in an instant.

We live in a time when lawsuits are commonplace. Anyone can be sued for any number of issues; an automobile or boating accident, a neighbor slips on your sidewalk at home, a visitor trips over your garden hose or gets bitten by your dog, your 4 year old pokes a playmate in the eye. the list goes on forever. People sue for almost anything and jury awards can easily exceed normal automobile or homeowner's insurance policy limits.

A Personal Umbrella Policy provides protection in excess of the limits on your homeowners, auto, boat or watercraft and motorcycle insurance policies. For example, your homeowner's liability limit is $500,000 and the claim against you is $800,000. Your homeowner's policy would pay the first $500,000 and the Umbrella Policy would pay the remaining $300,000.

Additionally, many umbrella policies also provide coverage for libel, slander, defamation of character and other personal injury lawsuits that may not be part of your basic home or auto insurance policy. Umbrella protection typically travels with you too. Suppose you're golfing in Ireland and accidentally hit someone with a bad shot? No problem, your Personal Umbrella Policy will protect you.
